Nikola Jokic is 10 years younger than LeBron James and has surpassed him in triple-doubles.
Nikola Jokic led the Denver Nuggets to their first championship in franchise history last season, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the best basketball player in the world. As the 2023-2024 season approaches, Jokic’s stellar start to the new season will only further widen the gap between himself and the league’s second-best player.
The Nuggets defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 134-116 on Monday, with Jokic once again leading the way. The superstar big man made 15 of 24 shots and scored 35 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. For any other player, this would be the game of a lifetime, but for Jokic, it was the performance we’ve all come to expect.
It was Jokic’s third triple-double in eight games this season (he also missed out on a triple-double twice this year with an assist). He has now scored 108 triple-doubles in his career, surpassing LeBron James and Jason Kidd in history. By the way, Jokic played 813 fewer games.
To break LeBron’s triple-double record in 813 fewer games is astounding. It’s hard to believe that Jokic is still only 28 years old because he has had the personality of a 45-year-old since he entered the league.
James needed 1,427 games to have 107 triple-doubles. Jason Kidd needs 1,391 games to reach that mark. For Jokic to surpass these two in 604 games would be crazy.
