Obamas, James are teaming up with former NFL star Producing a basketball documentary series reflecting on Manning’s “Quarterback” series.

barak and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is teaming up with NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning to produce a sports documentary.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , James’ SpringHill Company and Obama’s High Ground are in discussions with Manning’s Omaha Productions for upcoming series featuring professional basketball players. This exciting project aims to bring the same compelling approach to the NBA that Omaha’s “Quarterback” has done for the NFL.

The NBA is expected to play an integral role in the series, much like NFL Films did with The Quarterback. Higher Ground struck a first-look deal with Netflix, and The Quarterback proved to be a great addition to the streaming platform earlier this year.

While the specific players for the series will remain secret at this stage, it’s worth noting that previous sports documentaries have often sought to mix superstar athletes with lesser-known players.

In 2021, SpringHill, co-founded by James and Maverick Carter, attracted a total investment of $725 million from RedBird, Nike and Epic Games. The company also has first-look deals for scripted television and movies with Disney and Universal Pictures, respectively, bolstering its broad reach in the entertainment industry.

Known for its impactful documentaries, Higher Ground has established film and television partnerships with Netflix and a podcast partnership with Audible. Their latest acquisition, American Orchestra, is already generating buzz as a potential Oscar contender.

The resurgence of sports documentaries can largely be attributed to platforms like Netflix. Their content includes an in-depth exploration of Formula 1 racing drivers in Drive to Survive, PGA Tour golfers in Full Swing, and Patrick Mahomes in The Quarterback. The lives of athletes like Patrick Mahomes and David Beckham.
