David Mark Drake completed his earthly journey on October 4, 2023, in the company of his children and siblings in Vinemont, Alabama.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gaylyn Drake. He is survived by two daughters, Kaylee Drake and Carrieann Drake; his sister Alan Frazier, brothers Kuann Drake (Cindy) and Shane Drake (Emily); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews who affectionately called him “Uncle Roll Tide.”
David was born July 19, 1956, in Provo, Utah, to Charles and Gaylin Drake, and his family moved to Alabama when he was in grade school. To know David was to know a generous, smart man who was full of integrity and an absolute fanatic for all things Alabama sports. In the early years of his career, he played records and covered the airwaves on many radio stations along the Panama City coastline, a career he continued when he returned to Alabama to raise his family.
Over the years, he enjoyed taking various caving and adventure trips with his family at Cullman Grotto. And when he had free time later in life, he could be found either sitting in his second home, the Vinemont Super Saver, watching or announcing a sporting event, or gathering with friends.
A visitation service will be held in Cullman, Alabama on October 15, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Moss Funeral Home with a gathering at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 16, 2023 at 11:00 am. everyone is welcome to attend, and a meal and celebration of life will take place immediately afterwards in the same location.
