The set easily surpassed many records as it was one of the most anticipated releases of the year, and it opens with 302,000 equivalent units carried over. This is not only enough to send Rodrigo to number one on several charts, but also helps her join some of the most successful artists of the last few years.
Guts opens at number 1 in row Billboard displays this frame, including a ranking of the best alternative albums. The weekly list tracks the most popular alternative releases in America using a methodology that combines sales and streaming data.
In accordance with Billboard, Guts became the fourth-largest debut ever since it switched to an inclusive consumption model. For years, the Top Alternative Albums chart, like many of the company’s other album lists, focused solely on sales. Rodrigo now works for a very respected company and has one of the most impressive starts on the Top Alternative Albums chart. The biggest debut so far (since it started incorporating streaming) belongs to Taylor Swift. Folklorereleased with a circulation of 846,000 equivalent units, was postponed to August 2020.
Before This Year Is Over, The Singer-Songwriter’s Sequel Evermore also peaked at number one on the Top Alternative Albums chart, starting with 329,000 equivalent units in December 2020.
For a time, before Swift broke into and dominated the alternative charts, Billie Eilish claimed the biggest debut on the Top Alternative Albums chart. Her debut album When we all fall asleep, where do we go? began its time at number one in April 2019 with 313,000 equivalent units. This total now places her third on this all-time list.
Rodrigo Guts doesn’t just rule the Top Alternative Albums chart, it’s big enough to dominate several other charts at once. The album becomes her second consecutive No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and also ranks No. 1 on the list of top-selling albums.
