New behind-the-scenes images hint that Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) may be getting married in Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. Following the introduction and murder of Paul Rudd’s character Ben Glenroy in the Season 2 finale, the comedy-drama mystery series generated buzz for Season 3 on social media, especially with a behind-the-scenes video featuring announces the entry into the cast of Meryl Streep. So far, most of the plot details for Only Murders in the Building season 3 are being kept under wraps.
Images shared by Steve Martin on Twitter and Selena Gomez on Instagram heighten anticipation for the return of Only Murders in the Building, showing Mabel in a white wedding dress. The first image Martin shared highlights her popular role in the 1991 comedy, Father of the Bride. The second image shows her co-star Martin Short posing next to the bride. Gomez’s Instagram picture shows her drinking a soda and enjoying wearing the wedding dress on set.
These behind-the-scenes images add new questions to the pending Only Murders in the Building storyline, particularly regarding why Mabel is wearing the wedding dress and who she might marry. Mabel could marry one of her former loves, including Alice Banks (Cara Delevingne) or Oscar Torres (Aaron Dominguez). While possible, it would be surprising considering Mabel told Alice at the end of Only Murders in the Building Season 2 that they weren’t getting back together, plus the fact that Mabel has already recovered from her relationship with Oscar. Neither actor has been confirmed to reprise their roles for season three.
Another existing character may be connected to the wedding: Ben, the character killed in the season 2 finale. After the one-year time jump in Only Murders in the Building, and shortly before Ben’s death, Charles-Haden Savage tells him, “Stay away from her” and “I know what you did.” If Mabel was referenced in this conversation, perhaps Ben had something to do with ruining Mabel’s marriage, which would have happened in the year before Ben’s death.
There’s also the possibility that Mabel isn’t actually getting married or is just pretending. Things are often not what they seem in Only Murders in the Building. Putting on the wedding dress may just be a way to help Mabel uncover an important clue to solving Ben’s murder alongside Charles and Oliver Putnam. Between these wedding gown images and Rudd and Streep joining the cast of Only Murders in the Building, Season 3 just keeps getting more and more intriguing.
