Thinking about sustainability, is there a diet that is more in line with these issues? What products do you choose to be more environmentally friendly?
“Of course, on the table (or in bar format) there is also an increasingly wide range of products that respect the environment, starting with the cultivation of raw materials, preferably local, and which have recyclable or minimized packaging. Obviously, it would be best to prepare your own food to take with you while cycling, but it is also true that this takes more time and is not always possible. So the so-called “bars” should not be demonized, but rather chosen from brands that promote the use of fair farming products and minimal packaging, which we must always remember to throw away differentiatedly, if possible. , or at least never on earth. Filling a bottle with water from fountains and springs is also a nice gesture rather than buying mineral water bottles. I was lucky to get to know the reality of the Alce Nero brand, an Italian company dedicated since 1978 to the production of food products that are the result of an agriculture that respects the earth and people. A reality that today brings together more than a thousand Italian farmers and more than ten thousand small family farms in Central and South America and which supports me as a sponsor in various projects. Even meat consumption is a subtle but important issue: personally, I haven’t eaten anything for several years, while I eat a lot of legumes, but in general I think that any product should be bought where the origin is known and, in the case of farms, their sustainability and sanity“.
What landscape would you never want to disappear, especially among the most expensive cyclists?
“I could not choose one thing, for me every environment needs to be valued and preserved, and I suffer a lot when this does not happen. I recently started to deal with environmental issues, and I must say that the awareness of what is happening to our planet creates a lot of problems for me. Mato Grosso is an example of widespread destruction, the violent impact of man on nature, the complex management of the incredible environment for the species of vegetation and animals present. So I wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice any scenery starting from Canavese, where I live.“.
Who would you choose as your cycling companion among the characters most sensitive to environmental issues?
“I would choose Brad Pitt to chat with him about his many projects as a green icon and Leonardo DiCaprio to congratulate him on his role in Before the Flood documentary, which I would recommend to everyone.“.
What corners of the world that have not yet been traveled do you have in your dreams of cycling?
“I don’t know in what order of importance, because I wouldn’t really have any preferences, but sooner or later I would like to be able to cycle through the Silk Road, Central and South America, and all over Africa, albeit unfortunately due to political reasons is currently not possible“.
What are your next programs?
“First of all, a short vacation without giving up the bike altogether. In good company, I will leave for the Brittany region, France. But a longer term project that I would like to pursue is attending the COP30 environmental conference in 2025 in Belem, Amazon. I will do everything to be there!“.
