The Municipality of Parnaby issues alerts to the community regarding influenza or avian influenza through the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS) and the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (in contact with the Health Surveillance Coordination Unit).

Influenza, or avian influenza, is a highly contagious viral disease that commonly affects poultry and wild birds, causing respiratory illness. Eventually, mammals such as rats, cats, dogs, horses, dogs and humans are also affected, according to the Ministry of Health (MS). Human infection occurs through contact with infected birds or surfaces contaminated with animal excreta (such as saliva, nasal secretions, or feces).

Symptoms in humans are similar to those of the common flu, regardless of treatment with common antiviral drugs. However, bird flu can cause more severe symptoms in immunocompromised, unhealthy people and those with chronic heart or lung disease (considered high-risk groups).

In Parnaby, a second case after the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit is under investigation or is suspected of being infected with Doenza virus and is awaiting the results of surveillance by the State Health Secretariat (SES).

SMS requests that in case of questions or suspicions, the community can contact the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit at (55) 3375-6424, branch 378, or the Inspetoria de Defesa Agropecuária at (55) 3375-4577 or (51) 98445 -2033 (WhatsApp ), or via email (email protected).
