Patrick Mahomes has owned the NFL since he entered the league.
Now, the Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback wants to become an NFL owner.
“This is definitely where you want to be because I love the game and I want to give back in any way I can after the game is over,” Mahomes said Wednesday.
“Obviously, I’m going to be a Chiefs fan. But at the same time, I want to have that competitive edge that I’ve always had my whole life.”
The league’s reigning MVP and Super Bowl champion cited legendary quarterback and recently retired Tom Brady as a role model as Mahomes considered his postgame options.
“I think Tom is trying to do that right now,” Mahomes said, referring to Brady’s attempt to break into the NFL in terms of ownership.
Mahomes is a leader in sports business.
He recently became a shareholder in Formula 1 Alpine.
“I think everybody can see the appeal,” Mahomes said. “I’ve been able to play a few games now, get to know the environment, and then obviously watch Drive to Survive on Netflix and you’ll see
It’s really competitive.
“Anytime you get a chance to be involved, I mean I’m as competitive as anyone can get, so hopefully it leads to some good opportunities and we’re able to get in some of those games and get some opportunities to be in games. “
The face of the Chiefs franchise is also a part-owner of MLB’s Kansas City Royals, MLS’s Sporting Kansas City, NWSL’s Kansas City Chargers (NWSL) and the Pickleball Team.
Mahomes is putting together various sports projects in hopes of one day owning his own NFL team.
“If I can get there, then I’ll probably settle down,” Mahomes said. “But they make it very difficult to get there.”
He then worked on “The Quarterback,” a riveting behind-the-scenes drama that gave viewers an inside look at Mahomes’ life on and off the field.
Without F1 and Drive to Survive, Mahomes wouldn’t have shown another side of himself to the sports and business worlds.
“Just looking at how the top athletes in this profession are still able to do it
A documentary-type series that shows their lives but at the same time, they can still compete at the top of their careers,” Mahomes said.
“It shows that the best athletes in the world can do this, so I think I can do that while still focusing on the main thing and documenting all these cool things we get to do.”
