STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Pete Davidson is back in the building.
Davidson has been tapped to host the 49th season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” on Saturday. This is his first return to Studio 8H since his departure from the long-running variety show.
Davidson was originally slated to host the May 6 episode of “SNL” to promote his new semi-autobiographical Peacock series “Boopkies,” until an industry-wide writers’ strike put an end to the show. A strike that began in early May and lasted until September. 27 – “SNL” ended its 48th season, three episodes shy of its planned 21-episode arc.
The born-and-raised Staten Islander stayed on “SNL” for eight years—he joined in 2014 at age 20—before leaving at the end of its 47th season. He was originally supposed to be joined by musical guest Lil Uzi. Vert, but now Ice Spice will join him.
Davidson was best known for his appearances on “Weekend Update” alongside fellow Staten Islander Colin Jost and his recurring character Chad. Speaking of Yost, the 41-year-old is now the longest-serving Weekend Update host in the show’s history.
Davidson’s episode will be the first live episode of “SNL” since April 15, when actress Ana De Armas made her hosting debut. Karol G was the musical guest. Historically, May marks the end of each season of “SNL,” with the show typically releasing three new episodes before the summer break. But again the writers’ strike and all that.
TWO FRIENDS, ONE FERRY
In case you forgot, Davidson and Yost are converting the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry they bought in January 2022 into an entertainment venue.
Davidson, 29, previously shared an update on the boat, and let’s just say it will be a while before the project is completed.

Davidson, who checked into rehab earlier this summer, previously joked that he and Yost were “very stoned” buying the ex-ferry. Yost later took to Instagram to clear the air and refute Davidson’s claim.

Speaking of Davidson, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) previously announced that it was selling Pete Davidson’s Halloween costume for a limited time, months after he made a deal with the animal rights organization. For $99.99, buyers receive a cartoon paper mask with Davidson’s face on it, a stuffed dog, a “Shelter Dog Rule” bandana, a baseball cap that reads “#$@!%” and a sweatshirt that reads “I Should Have Adopted.” PETA encourages shoppers to wear their own “garbage clothing.” As of Tuesday, the suit was still available.

Jost is expected to be joined on the 49th season of “SNL” by his longtime “Weekend Update” co-host Michael Che, as well as Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Punky Johnson, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Young. .
Notable players Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, Sarah Sherman and Devon Walker are also expected to return. Chloe Troast appears to be the only new addition to the cast this season.
