Now a timeless symbol of the world – of cinema – that never ceases to charm. Hollywood: The colossal writing that unfolds in Los Angeles and shows us that the stuff that dreams are made of is 100 years old. The world celebrates it and under the stars of cinema, the Cineteca offers a retrospective in the event that crosses the history of Hollywood in Piazza Maggiore.
The first date is today at 21.45, with John Carpenter’s 1997: Escape from New York, who he said took inspiration from a science fiction book. Presented by Roy Menarini. The retrospective will continue tomorrow evening with a cult title from the 1990s such as The Big Lebowski by the Coen brothers, while on Saturday comes a decidedly more recent title: Elvis by Baz Luhrmann, eight nominations for the previous Oscar, with Austin Butler. This first part of the retrospective closes out Sunday with such 1961 classics as The Swashbuckler by Robert Rawson with Paul Newman (introducing Roy Menarini once again).
The Hollywood 100 retrospective will then resume with Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation on Tuesday, July 25, followed by Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby on Wednesday, July 26. Super Classic, Thursday 28 July, Some Like It Hot by Billy Wilder and the Grand Finale with Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch on Friday 29 July.
