Distraught over the death of their child in a car crash, Australian Navy Commander John Ingram and his wife Ray embark on a Pacific cruise on their yacht, the Saracen, in hopes of restoring balance and calm. On the day of “even calm” they notice the mysterious schooner “Orpheus” motionless in the sea, which does not respond to radio communications.
When John decides to approach, suddenly a small lifeboat separates from the schooner with a man at the oars, who seems frightened and beside himself.
