The difficulties of this last year in Barcelona have been many not only for Shakira but also for her two children Sasha and Milan. For them the singer makes a public appeal.
A little over a week has passed since the transfer of Shakira in Miami. A choice already made last year, complete with legal agreements with the ex-partner, Gerard Pique, on times and modalities of visits to the children. However, although Shakira’s idea was to start 2023 with a one-way flight to the Florida city, she had to change plans. Yes, because her uprooting after 12 years in Barcelona involves not only her but also her parents. Both have had health issues that prevented them from packing until April.
To this story has also been added the unconfirmed rumor that the departure should necessarily take place before April 30th. In fact, the former house of Shakira and Piquè was sold to divide the amount equally. The company that bought it is, lo and behold, run by the former father-in-law, Joan Pique. Out of Christian charity, he reminded Shakira that, as per the signed sales clauses, she had to vacate the apartment by the end of the month. She left it almost a month before so as to close permanently.
Shakira begs newspapers: ‘Be sensitive to situation’
The day after Easter, also in the company of Toby the bunny, Shakira made an open-hearted appeal to all the newspapers and media in general. An appeal that does not concern her but rather someone more important: her children Sasha and Milan. The two children, aged 8 and 10, have lived an intense year like their parents and now they are trying again to be carefree. For this mother Shakira intervened to defend her puppies; here is what she wrote about Instagram.
Dear friends, journalists and media, at this time of changes in my life as a public figure, it is understandable that there is a permanent press curiosity about me and my family. However my children, Milan and Sasha have had a very difficult year, enduring unceasing siege and relentless persecution by paparazzi and various media in Barcelona.
Now as they begin a new phase in their lives, I strongly ask the media on behalf of my children, to respect theirs right to privacy.
Please refrain from following them to the exit or entrance of the school, waiting for them outside our house, or chasing them to their extracurricular and playful activities as happened every day in Barcelona in order to get better photographs or listening.
I trust reporters and photographers to be sensitive to the situation who are facing Milan and Sasha and can behave as humanly as possible with them, considering that we are dealing with the health and physical and emotional integrity of two children aged 8 and 10 who just wish they could go out on the street and attend school feeling safe and having the peace of mind of not being persecuted or subjected to constant surveillance by the cameras.
I extend this request no longer as an artist, but as a mother who wishes to protect and care for the psychological and emotional well-being of her children so that they can live a healthy and happy life, as every child deserves. Thanks for your understanding and support.
