Rare interview with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder (Flashback)

“To Nick, Matt and Pierre” before the second Pearl Jam concert after an interview with Eddie Vedder. October 22, 2013

Ten years ago on October 22, 2013, the WMMR family received an opportunity they had been working on for… Very long time: opportunity to sit down and chat with Eddie Vedder. The elusive singer doesn’t get much press, but after a lot of emails and lots of love for Pearl Jam on our airwaves, the gang was allowed backstage at the Wells Fargo Center. Pierre Robert, Nick McIlvaine of the Preston & Steve Show and Matt Cord (currently in the hallway at our sister station WMGK) were honored to spend a few minutes with him before the show.

This interview was years in the making – and Eddie turned out to be every bit as cool as we hoped. Later that night he uttered his now legendary cry: “Nick…”

In this chat, they discussed Pearl Jam’s relationship with Philadelphia and their run of 2009 shows that ended the Spectrum. Eddie reflects on the band’s influence, connection with fans and his unusual way of relaxing: ax throwing.
