Revisit the prenuptial agreement Michael Jordan signed 10 years ago

Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan divorced his first wife, Juanita Vanoy, on December 29, 2006, and was forced to pay a settlement of up to $168 million. Before Jordan remarried his second wife, Yvette Prieto, on April 27, 2013, Jordan signed a lucrative prenuptial agreement that would change based on the number of years the couple had been married.

Under the terms of the prenuptial agreement, Prieto will receive $1 million per year for the 10 years of his marriage to Jordan. However, after 10 years of marriage, this number increases to $5 million per year.

The couple have been married since 2013, with Prieto now eligible for up to $50 million starting today. However, this can only happen if the couple decides to divorce.

While that total may still seem shocking to some, it pales in comparison to Jordan’s net worth of $3.5 billion as of 2023.

Jordan’s net worth recently surged to $3.5 billion after he completed the sale of his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets last month, according to Bloomberg. According to ESPN, Jordan sold his stake in the team to hedge fund and private equity tycoons Gabriel Plotkin and Rick Schnall for $3 billion.

While Jordan and Prieto still have no plans to divorce anytime soon, it looks like both will be protected in the event of an unexpected divorce. Jordan will retain most of his vast wealth, while Prieto will remain financially stable going forward. So, it’s safe to say that the Bulls legend has learned from his past mistakes and learned some lessons this time around.
