Pauly Shore is desperate to portray fitness icon Richard Simmons in a biopic.
Monday (September 25) Encino Man The star said that he spoke with Simmons about his possible role in a future film.
“Since many people always told me that I look like Richard Simmons, I started this series on all my social media platforms called Sweatin with Wiez in honor of Richard. Then someone made their own meme about me playing Richard in a biopic. This is me returning all the love from you guys,” Shore wrote on Facebook.
Unfortunately, Simmons did not support Shore’s idea.
“So I reached out to Richard… and his reps said Richard loved me and my mom (he’s known us both for decades) but Richard was politely passing me by. He said Richard wanted to remain private at this time, which we should all respect,” the comedian continued.

“Richard, we all miss you, love you very much and want only the best for you. You are in all our hearts. You can always contact me if you change your mind. I’m just a phone call away. And since it’s Yom Kippur, I’d love to come over, bring you some nice warm matzo ball soup, sit at the head of your bed and look you in the eye,” Shore joked.
Before logging out, Bio-Dome the actor explained his vision for Richard Simmons’ upcoming film, once again touching on the topic.
“Why don’t we turn to Dexter Fletcher, the dude who did an AMAZING job directing Rocket man, the story of Elton John? Dexter, can we make a test recording and give it to Richard and his representatives for blessing? What do you guys think? I mean, the movie poster is already done!” — Shore wrote.

Shore’s Facebook request comes just days after he first tweeted about his idea to play Simmons in a film adaptation of the latter star’s life and career.
“I noticed a reaction to me playing #RichardSimmons in a biopic. I heard he lives in Big Bear. We played telephone conversations (yes, he has a telephone). I’m trying to make this happen, you guys,” Shore tweeted in September. 21.
Many users were excited about the idea of Shore playing the 75-year-old fitness star.
“You would crush this role!” responded one Twitter user.
“That would be epic, I hope you can do it Paulie!” answered the other.
“Two legends joining forces… This Oscar is yours,” someone else replied.
Simmons burst onto the scene as a keen fitness instructor in the ’80s and ’90s, appearing on both daytime and late-night talk shows.
At the peak of his career, Simmons released a number of cookbooks, commercials and best-selling workout videos.
