Screen Time – April 2023 –

Spring is in full swing and that no doubt means that many of you are trying to wake up from your hibernation and get back into the big bad world. We’re here to give you 11 reasons why you should just kick back in front of the TV or head to the movies instead, as April 2023 is bringing a huge lineup of exciting TV and Movies to streamers and theaters.

But before we get to this latest episode of Screen Time, a quick reminder. We based our picks on a release schedule UK, so be sure to check local listings for accurate dates. With that out of the way, let’s kick things off with an eagerly anticipated animated film.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie – April 5th

Illumination, the creators of all things Minions, have gotten their hands on Nintendo’s most iconic character and adapted him into an adventure that sees Mario, Peach, Toad and loads of other instantly recognizable and lovable faces travel across the Mushroom Kingdom to save Luigi and stop Bowser’s rampage. With an all-star cast, including the likes of Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen and more, this will be Mario’s first real blockbuster on the big screen.

Beef (Netflix) – April 6

Road rage got the best of us all, but very few people have probably let it impact them the way Steven Yeun and Ali Wong did in Netflix’s Beef. This series sees two people truly consumed with hatred for each other after a car accident, and sees how their lives drastically change as they try to explore every way to get back to each other.

The Pope’s Exorcist – April 7th

Religion and horror have always danced a delicate line, as some of the best horror films in history explore how priests and godmen vanquish and vanquish demons and possessed people. The Pope’s Exorcist will try to explore similar rhythms, as here, Russell Crowe’s father, Gabriele Amorth, tries to investigate a case of possession and soon after uncovers an age-old conspiracy that has been covered up by the Vatican.

Renfield – April 14th

Have you ever wondered how Dracula would fit into modern society? If so, the comedic version of the world’s most famous vampire, Renfield, should be right up your street. This hilarious film stars Nicholas Hoult as the titular Renfield, an assistant to Nicolas Cage’s Dracula, as he tries to leave the service of the Prince of Darkness in favor of having a simple life in modern-day New Orleans.

Assassin Club – April 14th

Henry Golding is shaping up to be one of Hollywood’s most promising young action stars, and his latest effort, Assassin’s Club is looking to be the next notch on that belt. Acting alongside Noomi Rapace, Daniela Melchior and Sam Neill, this film has Golding’s protagonist tasked with eliminating seven people from around the world, who happen to be assassins who have been hired to eliminate him.

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (Netflix) – April 14th

Fans of Netflix’s The Last Kingdom have no doubt been waiting a long time for the series to continue with this cinematic feature. The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die picks up after the events of King Edward’s death, and sees Uhtred of Bebbanburg and his allies travel through a divided kingdom, all with the goal of uniting England.

Screen Time - April 2023

Ghosted (Apple TV+) – April 21st

One is a highly trained secret agent and the other is a soul in love hoping for happiness. This film by Chris Evans and Ana de Armas challenges genre stereotypes as Evans plays the helpless heartthrob, while de Armas saves the day as the honorable heroine. Coming to Apple TV+, this movie aims to be action packed and sprinkled with laughter.

Evil Dead Rise – April 21st

The Evil Dead franchise is returning to its truly horrific and gruesome roots this April when the heartbreaking Evil Dead Rise hits theaters. Telling the story of what happens when the reunion of two estranged sisters is interrupted by demons possessing flesh, this film explores the family’s struggle for survival as they face nightmarish versions of their loved ones.

Paint – April 28

Life is full of happy little accidents, as a famous and beloved painter once said. Owen Wilson’s Carl Nargyle, a man known as Vermont’s #1 public television painter with a perm and custom van probably wouldn’t have such a positive outlook on life, especially when a certain young painter, with a perm and custom van customized, bursts onto the scene and steals the life in Paint.

Peter Pan and Wendy (Disney+) – April 28th

Depending on when you were born, you probably have a favorite version of the story about the boy who wouldn’t grow up. Since it’s been a while since a Peter Pan movie has been churned out, Disney has given the iconic story another live-action take on Peter Pan and Wendy, a film that takes us back to Neverland. is to tackle Jude Law’s version of Captain Hook, as the next big Disney+ addition.
