Drake University is the only Iowa college named to the Wall Street Journal’s 2024 list of the top 100 best colleges in the United States.
The ranking is based on student performance, learning environment and diversity, as well as average annual tuition and the value added to graduates’ salaries by attending the university. Ranked 97th, Drake ranked above Johns Hopkins University and below George Mason University.
The New York Times also recently named Drake one of the top colleges with the most economic diversity in the United States. In this list he took 133rd place.
“Drake’s inclusion in these two outstanding rankings validates the incredible work being done on our campus to create a positive, collaborative and inclusive environment as we carry out our work to transform lives and strengthen communities,” Marty Martin, President of Drake University. “,” the post reads. “As we continue to invest in our campus and pave the way for a bright future for future generations, this is a reminder of all the incredible progress we have already made toward that vision.”
Drake’s graduating class of 2022 shows why it made the Wall Street Journal list, which is “designed to help students and families find the best value in higher education,” according to a press release.
According to the university, statistics for the Class of 2022 include:
- 97% of bachelor’s degree graduates are employed, attending graduate or professional school, or pursuing activities related to their professional goals.
- 98% of graduate students found employment or further education within six months of graduation.
- 93% of students reported having completed an internship or other practical experience at Drake.
The university also reported that 91% of students earn a bachelor’s degree within four years.
The press release said Drake’s Class of 2027 is one of the most diverse classes in the university’s history. Nearly a quarter of incoming and transfer students are first-generation college students. Students in the class come from 28 states and 17 countries.
Iowa State University was ranked 145th on the Wall Street Journal list, and the University of Iowa was ranked 160th.
