Selena Gomez’s split from Justin Bieber leads to Instagram breakup | Entertainment

Selena Gomez’s breakup with Justin Bieber led to her quitting social media.

The Only Murders in the Building actress’ on-off romance with the Yummy hitmaker finally ended after eight years in 2018, and soon after he was confirmed to be dating current wife Hailey Baldwin and the 31-year-old. The star admitted that her grief was one of the decisive factors that influenced her decision to leave Instagram.

Speaking to Fast Company, Selena, who only returned to the platform last year, said: “I just got my heart broken. I didn’t need to see what everyone was doing.

“Then there were times when I didn’t feel positive about the way I looked because of what I saw on Instagram. Wow, I wish my body looked like this.”

The “Lose You To Love Me” hitmaker also admitted that cruel comments about her figure as she no longer had a “teenage body” had taken a toll at the same time.

She said: “None of the sample sizes were suitable and that would have made me feel uneasy. Although how unrealistic is it to expect that a normal woman’s body will not change?”

Although Selena was diagnosed with bipolar disorder the same year she split from Justin, she didn’t go public with her condition until two years later and explained that she was “scared” by the thought that coming out would lead to her being judged and losing her job.

She said: “I grew up being a people pleaser.

“I had responsibility at a very young age – young people looked up to me. I didn’t know who I was. This responsibility would have me walking on eggshells often.

“I thought it might be harmful to tell people who I am. It started to become a threat that scared me. Well, if you’re wrong, then you won’t be able to work.”

But the Rare Beauty founder was glad to receive her diagnosis because she had been struggling with her mood.

She said: “I have been through a very difficult season. It was my ups and downs and I didn’t know what to do so I couldn’t control it.

“I would like to cancel everything. It was just a painful feeling. So when I found out about my diagnosis, I just said, “Oh, okay, I feel a little relieved, I understand a little more.”

Selena believes the key to her popularity is that she is perceived by her fans as a “best friend” rather than an unattainable “goddess.”

She said, “I’m not unattainable. I look at someone like Beyoncé and I’m amazed. My jaw drops. Every part of her body is flawless and it is so beautiful.

“I went to her show and was shocked. But I’m just not like that, and that’s okay.

“I’m me and I’m a little silly, but I also like to be sexy and fun and I also want to have a good time with what I have. We need goddesses like Beyoncé and Adele. But I’m just glad to be your best friend.”
