September 8, 2002 “8 Mile” released.

When 8 miles hit the big screen, many thought of Elvisiana’s classic memory attempt (not to mention our own Gianni Morandi, Al Bano, Rita Pavone, Little Tony…) to commercialize the character Eminema white rapper who was in vogue during the period in question, gaining audiences and market shares that had not previously considered rap (i.e., the musical discipline of hip-hop culture).

Surprisingly, however, Curtis Hanson (the director of a very refined Los Angeles Secrets) with great attention, precision, energy, intelligence leads the socio-cultural section of the most proletarian and depressive USA (Detroit) of the 90s, which in many ways is still very relevant, so much so that 8 miles can be considered (yes sir) for the decade 1995-2005 the equivalent of Saturday Night Fever for the late 70s-early 80s.

Eminem’s pseudo-bio boasts some truly hypnotic music (even if you don’t like rap; by the way, the title track, lose yourself, will win an Oscar), great performances, amazing Eminem, wonderful Brittany Murphyand really very good (and always beautiful) Kim Basingerwhich Curtis Hanson knows how to appreciate, like few others (see. Los Angeles Secrets). The last 3 battles in which B-Rabbit/Eminem challenges the three leaders of the opposing group and where he proclaims a new identity, a new race of those who don’t have versus those who have, are textbook cinematic. where neither skin color, nor religion, nor political beliefs, nor where they come from matters. In these battles, real sublimations of bloodless clashes, a mixture of energy and anger explodes, which becomes a cohesive creative and mental discipline, where muscles do not count, and where the one who wins wins.
