Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian opens up about Armenian genocide in Azerbaijan conflict

Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian recently expressed displeasure over the Armenian genocide in the wake of the conflict in Azerbaijan.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and American tennis legend Serena Williams got married in November 2017, shortly after welcoming their first daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. The couple gave birth to their second daughter in August this year.

In addition to keeping her daughter in the spotlight on social media, Ohanian also talks about social causes. The decent Armenian tech entrepreneur recently shared his thoughts on the Armenian genocide in the ongoing conflict in Azerbaijan.

During World War I, some 1.5 million Armenians were systematically murdered under the Ottoman Empire, part of which makes up today’s Turkey. This stems from the conflict between Azerbaijan’s Karbach enclave and Armenia’s Artsakh, which dates back to the early 20th century.

Artsakh is globally recognized as part of Azerbaijan and has since been a disputed region home to both large Armenian and Azerbaijani minorities. However, the Azerbaijanis claimed full control of the region on September 20, causing 100,000 Armenians to flee Artsakh.

Ohanian spoke about the recent conflict on X while sharing a heartbreaking photo of a tapestry holding keys to the homes of Armenian survivors during the 1915 genocide. He said the Armenian people are resilient and believed they must remain the same after experiencing genocide and ongoing injustice.

“We are resilient people. But why do we have to be so resilient for over a hundred years? Those who still deny our genocide (that they committed) have been given free reign by global powers to orchestrate a expulsion, which we all fear will lead to more conquests of Armenian lands in the coming months. Turkey/Azerbaijan have a clear goal here: to conquer Armenia,” Ohanian retweeted on X (formerly Twitter) A post with the following content:

“A tapestry at a school in Arares, Armenia, holds keys representing the homes left behind by survivors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. The school now welcomes children from Artsakh who were forced to flee their homes in 2023 “.
