In 2019, Selena Gomez appeared on Apple Music, where she talked about her relationship with Taylor Swift. The show’s host, Zane Lowe, played Gomez on audio of Swift expressing her love, admiration and just how proud she is of her longtime best friend Selena Gomez.
In the interview, Swift was heard saying: “This is the best thing she’s ever done. She came over and showed me the video. I’m just so proud of her. She’s been through a lot. I’ve seen so much of her life and had a front row seat to so much, and I’m so proud of her. I’m very happy because when someone who has a lot of life experience has been through, you know, really difficult things that they’ve had to go through, and they can get through it and create art that will help other people. This is the song. I have supplies.”
To which the Rare singer responded: “Awww Taylor, that’s really sweet.” Lowe then asked her where she would be without her friends. To which the singer replied: “I don’t know and really don’t know what kind of friend she was to you in those days. Surprising, of course. She was upset when I was upset. She was sad when I was sad, but most of all my friends stood by me when I think they clearly saw that I was hurting so much and they didn’t want that for me, but they were sorry. Oh no, they never stopped loving.”

Gomez said, “I played her the song, played it with her mom and dad, showed her the video, and her mom and Taylor started crying, and it wasn’t because the song was emotional; simply because the first thing they said to me was, “We’re so happy you’re here.” Yes, after all this, this is such a cool moment.”
