‘She’s sick of Johnny’: The $278 million film was reportedly an all-out war between Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie behind the scenes

Hollywood often creates fictional, magical love stories in which the chemistry between the partners is a thrill. However, acting also comes with unique challenges, as Angelina Jolie painfully learned when playing Johnny Depp’s lover in their 2010 romantic thriller.

The 48-year-old Oscar-winning actress has worked with many famous actors, including Winona Ryder, Brad Pitt and Nicolas Cage. But at the beginning of her career, Jolie really wanted to collaborate with Pirates of the Caribbean star. Why? She once said that she was madly in love with Depp.

Finally everything fell into place and she was able to work with her idol Johnny Depp in Tourist. But this was not what she expected. Jolie probably regretted having a lifelong crush on Depp because of his alleged behavior, which was truly unexpected for the actress.

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie didn’t get along during filming Tourist

Johnny Depp played an American named Frank Tupelo/Alexander Pierce, who met Angelina Jolie’s elegant heroine Elsie Clinton-Ford in Tourist while they were both on vacation in Italy. Although they were initially keen to collaborate on the film, he was not the easiest actor to work with, especially in the kissing scenes.

There have been conflicting reports about the time the two A-listers spent on set, and Seleb bitchy suggested they didn’t get along. According to an unnamed source, Jolie is tired of Depp:

“She’s tired of Johnny. Their chemistry should be off the charts, but they don’t get along well in private.”

The source further said that this sentiment is shared by both stars:

“Johnny retreats to his trailer until he is called again. He thinks she’s really smug.

However, when they spoke publicly about each other, Jolie and Depp only behaved professionally when discussing each other’s work. Vanity Fair quotes the latter as saying the following about his time spent working with Unbroken actress:

“She’s everything. She’s kind of a walking poem, Angelina. She is the perfect beauty, but at the same time very deep, very smart, very fast, very smart, very funny, and she also has a very twisted sense of humor.”

Angelina Jolie said kind words to Johnny Depp

Reviews about Tourist were just average. It was also expensive to shoot, with a budget of $100 million based on cast and location. The film grossed $278 million on its star power alone. The prospect of seeing Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp together on the big screen for the first time was exciting.

Judging by Jolie’s comments IGNthese two went together from the very beginning:

“Oh, he’s just such a nice guy. You walk into someone’s office and see what’s important to them. He has many books and many photographs of his children. So this is someone you immediately feel comfortable with. He’s a real, experimental, deeply feeling artist who gives a lot, tries a lot and is very gracious to everyone on set.”

Jolie later admitted that she did not expect such a funny sense of humor from Depp. The actress claimed that the actor’s on-set antics caused them to lose a lot of time during filming (via IGN):

“There’s some footage that I’m surprised hasn’t surfaced… God, there was a good 20 minutes, half an hour earlier when we couldn’t stop laughing. We wasted a lot of film. And I got a lot of disappointed producers. I’m sure parts of it are very funny.”

Despite negative reviews of the film, it received three Golden Globe nominations.

Depp is currently working as a director on his upcoming biographical drama film. Modi, based on the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. After the 1997 film Brave, this will be his second project as a director.

Meanwhile, Jolie will next be seen in a Pablo Larran film. Marybiographical drama about opera singer Maria Callas.
