Blockbuster films and prime-time television series brought a welcome boost to the county’s economy. The cast and crew stayed in hotels and inns, and also relaxed in cafes, restaurants and pubs across Derbyshire. Hundreds of visitors followed suit, eager to see the filming locations of their favorite actors.
The latest series of Billions, part of which was filmed at Haddon Hall, aired this summer and follows a string of high-profile filming in Derbyshire.
Emmy Award-winning actor Damian Lewis filmed part of the seventh and final series of Billions at Haddon Hall in November 2022. The TV series, set in the world of high finance and starring Damian as hedge fund manager Ax, began airing in the UK in August this year. Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise has been at the center of Dalton-Quarrie and Stony Middleton’s exciting career stunts in 2021 on the set of the seventh film in the Mission: Impossible series. Tom flew over the site in a helicopter to see the spectacular scene of the train crashing onto the edge of a cliff. It was a dramatic climax to a fight on top of a speeding train involving Tom’s character Ethan Hunt and Gabriel (played by Esai Morales). Tom reportedly ordered takeaways for cast and crew from Stoney Middleton’s Curry Cottage and Toll Bar Fish and Chips.

Keira Knightley filmed Pride and Prejudice in Derbyshire, with scenes filmed at Stanage Edge, Northleys Hall in Hathersage and Chatsworth House.
