‘Stranger Things’ star Millie Bobby Brown responds to fan theory about ‘Eleven’ and ‘Upside Down’

IN Stranger ThingsIn season four, we finally learned more about Eleven’s past and witnessed what appeared to be the making of Upside Down.

When young Eleven encountered the manipulative Henry Creel in Hawkins Laboratory (moments after he killed her fellow child prodigies), her powers punched a hole into another dimension and left him in an upside-down position, where in the years that followed he was transformed into a monstrous Vecnu. It was a neat twist, but it raised a lot of questions.

At that moment, did Eleven somehow create the Upside Down? If anything, we know that her actions set the events of the series in motion, but actress Millie Bobby Brown recently shared her take on the theory in an interview with Variety (via SFFGazette.com).

“Certainly,” she responded when industry insiders asked if it was nice to finally get long-overdue answers. “For years I had so many questions about where Eleven came from, who she was. What were Dr. Brenner’s intentions? What are his intentions now? Is he still alive?

“But, you know, the Duffer Brothers, they are the only people in this world who know Stranger Things better than we do. I trusted that they would always bring it home and answer all the questions. So this season was the season that you get all those questions answered.”

As for whether the Duffers told her that Eleven created the Upside Down, Brown responded: “They told me. She knows. She opens a rift.”

However, she hastened to clarify: “This is too serious a debate for me to answer. I’m so worried. I think no, no, no. I think the alternate universe has always existed. She will always be with Hawkins. I just think she has access to it. I don’t think she created the Upside Down. No, I think she was always there, I think she just created a gateway to him that no one could do before.”

Earlier it became known that the first episode of the fifth season will be called “Crawling.” Production Director Dan Trachtenberg is at the helm. Shawn Levy will also step away from the camera, but production was forced to shut down back in May due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike.

The latter is of course still ongoing, meaning we don’t know when Stranger Things will return for its fifth and final season (but 2024 is looking increasingly unlikely).
