Host of the Real Ones podcast, hosted by John Bernthal (translator chastener in the MCU), director David Eyre gotta think about the flop Suicide Squad (2016), film starring Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Will Smith (Deadshots) AND Jared Leto (Joker), which was heavily dismissed by critics and audiences alike, despite grossing a whopping $747 million at the worldwide box office.
As many of you know, Warner heavily twisted the director’s cut (just compare the first and second trailer), making the film much lighter and more comical than Ayer intended:
It completely destroyed me. There are so many blockbusters that have damaged me both physically and mentally, but Suicide Squad impressed me the most. I just finished Fury, I could do anything and I agreed to this movie. We made a great film, dark, deep, dramatic… Then Warner Bros. saw that the audience didn’t like ‘Batman v Superman’ because it was ‘too dark’ and in the meantime ‘Deadpool’ came out so they took my film and I ‘They turned into a bloody comedy. It was terrible.
To date, Warner Bros. does not appear to be willing to release his cut, but despite this, Ayer explained that he received reassurance from James Gunn, who did not give up on the idea”Ayer Kat”.
