The Continental is set in New York City in the 1970s. It follows young Winston Scott as he charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing bid to wrest it from current boss Cormac.

Meanwhile, Peter Green, the villain from the hit film The Mask, plays a character called Uncle Charlie in the new series.

In The Mask (1994), he played Dorian Tyrell’s archenemy alongside Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz.

But now, almost 30 years after the comedy sci-fi film was released, Peter, 57, looks almost unrecognizable in his current role in The Continental.

After The Mask, Peter also starred in the films Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, Training Day and The Bounty Hunter.

Meanwhile, Cormac is played by legendary actor Mel Gibson, and the menacing character will definitely appeal to fans of the John Wick universe.

Speaking about working with the Oscar winner, The Continental’s action director Larnell Stovall admitted that despite his successful career in the industry, he was nervous working with him.

Larnell said: “What was interesting about Mel was… look, I grew up watching him, so the idea of being on set with him was quite intimidating.

“You have to introduce something small, like, ‘Hey sir, this is what we’re planning to do in this little sequence of actions,’ you never tell him what to do, you suggest.

“But after a few moments he’s like, ‘Hey kid, you know what you’re doing,’ and then he opens up.”

Larnell spoke at an immersive event held at a Redchurch townhouse in London, which was transformed into The Continental for the launch of the new series.

He recalled how he got to see Mel’s fun side, which belies the serious and sinister character he plays on the show.
