The Boys, Elon Musk as the Patriot on the Prime Video Twitter account

The decision to remove the blue check for those who are not willing to pay 8 dollars (barring exceptions) is targeted by a meme: “Well, he can do whatever he likes…”

The irreverence of The Boys is perhaps the main ingredient for the success of the series. The ferocious satire of the Prime Video production (also visible on Sky Glass, Sky Q and via the app on the Now Smart Stick) based on the Garth Ennis comic of the same name is now known to all. So the Prime Video UK Twitter account thought of using one of the main characters of the series to parody a decision made by Elon Musk, owner of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter.

Remove the blue check

Musk has recently definitively decided to remove the blue check from official Twitter accounts, despite the controversy and concerns about the possibility that this change could increase and facilitate the creation of fake profiles. Prime Video UK has therefore posted a meme of the Patriot played by Anthony Starr in the scene in which he pushes his son off the roof to make him fly and declares: “I’m a Patriot and I can do whatever f ** or I want”.

EIGHT DOLLARS, BUT FOR SOME IT OFFERS HIM

Musk had announced that he wanted to ask users $8 to get the blue check, with some exceptions. In addition to the institutions – from the Pope to Joe Biden – who have obtained a new gray check, some well-known personalities have found themselves the blue check kindly offered by Musk. This is the case, for example, of LeBron James or Stephen King, who said he never signed up for Twitter Blue, didn’t pay the $8, didn’t leave his phone number for verification.

VIP WITHOUT CHECK

Instead, Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian and Cristiano Ronaldo lost the check. Even some Italian VIPs reacted sarcastically to Musk’s decision. From Fiorello’s “you ticked my ass” to Barbara D’Urso’s “check #with your heart”, passing through Antonella Clerici’s star.
