The celebrations for the wedding of Princess Diana’s niece, Lady Amelia Spencer

The South African wedding celebrations to Greg Mallett of Princess Diana’s niece, Lady Amelia Spencer, started off in appropriate elegance with a splendid welcome party in Cape Town. Last Saturday Lady Amelia, the 30-year-old model daughter of 9th Earl Spencer and granddaughter of Diana, Princess of Wales, and her handsome boyfriend, personal trainer and fitness guru, were joined by their loved ones, including Amelia’s twin, Lady Eliza Spencer, for a society party at sunset.

Wearing their finest cocktail dresses, the guests gathered at a private seaside residence to toast the couple’s bliss over an elegant evening. The bride-to-be looked natural and refined in the skintight satin gown that tied at the back of her neck with criss-cross straps that accentuated her bust by tying elegantly at the nape of her neck. To complete the slender silhouette, Lady Amelia wore her blonde hair in an elegant chignon. Also opting for the “less-is-more” look was Lady Eliza, who wore an equally flowing gown in a light-catching pewter hue as she draped behind the poolside party.

«The most beautiful pre-wedding party for you. I love you with all my heart», Lady Eliza commented with great enthusiasm in a post on Instagram. Mallett published a tribute to his bride, writing: “You can never help but make me laugh. And I will never stop looking at you enchanted».

As the sun set over the pre-wedding party, various floating light balls were thrown into the pool to create a lively atmosphere. The happy couple kissed and gazed lovingly as cameras captured some of their last moments together before they became husband and wife. The festivities continued into the night as Mallett posted a few photos of a group of guests from South Africa and the UK taking an after-hours “tour” of Cape Town.

Lady Amelia, who previously appeared on the cover of tatler, announced their engagement to Mallett in July 2020, after a 10-year relationship that began at the University of Cape Town. At the time, preparations were already underway for the wedding of her older sister Lady Kitty, 32, to Michael Lewis, whose lavish wedding in Rome was one of the highlights of the 2021 social season.

Rather than away from home, Lady Amelia chose to get married in Cape Town, where she was raised by her mother, Victoria Aitken. Aitken (née Lockwood) and her first husband, Earl Spencer, moved to South Africa in 1995 with their four children (Lady Kitty, Lady Amelia, Lady Eliza and Louis, Viscount Althorp) to escape the media attention it had engulfed Princess Diana and her family. Divorcing two years later, Earl Spencer returned to England (and remarried twice), while Aitken remained in Cape Town with her children. She later had another, Samuel, with her second husband Jonathan Aitken (whom she divorced in 2009). All of Lady Amelia’s siblings are expected to attend the wedding. However, doubts remain about the position of Count Spencer, who had not attended the Roman party of Lady Kitty and Lewis.

Lady Amelia and Mallett arrived in Cape Town earlier this month, ahead of a close friend’s wedding last weekend. Lady Amelia shared a photo of her boyfriend beaming as they toasted on their (business class) seats to the upcoming adventure that awaits them. Three days ago, the two hinted that their long-awaited nuptials would take place soon. “It’s not long,” Mallett wrote in the caption of a photo in which he kisses his future wife at sunset.

The couple, especially Mallett, are fond of making public declarations of love. Late last year, Mallett shared a gorgeous selection of photos of his glamorous fiancée on Instagram to mark how close to their wedding. “I did something for you. 4 months away from getting married to the love of my life! », she wrote with great enthusiasm in the romantic love letter on social media. Lady Amelia replied: «Ahhhhhh that’s super awesome! I love you with all my heart, darling. I can’t wait to spend (eternity) with you.”

It has been an intense start to the year for Lady Amelia. Before her there was the bachelorette party in the name of pink and feminine, where she let her group of friends shower her with love while sipping champagne by the pool. Then, she and Greg flew to Dubai to join beautiful people from all over the world who flocked to Beyoncé’s opening show at Atlantis The Royal in Dubai. More recently, there has been a series of runway shows in celebration of Fashion Month. The Spencer sisters attended the show for Michael Kors in New York and for Brunello Cucinelli, Alberta Ferretti and Del Core in Milan. In London, on the other hand, they showed for Josh Birch Jones, a very young fashion talent, in the historic setting of Dartmouth House.
