The Continental on Prime Video: What is the series before John Wick? – News series

The Continental series, the official prequel to the John Wick film, vaut-elle le coup d’oeil?

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

The three-party series explores the origins of the legendary assassin’s hotel, a staple of the John Wick universe. The series is seen through the eyes of a young Winston Scott, who comes to New York in the 1970s to forget what he thought he was leaving behind.

Winston navigates a deadly path through the mysteries of the hotel’s underground world in a preliminary attempt to find out from the hotel where he will finally end up.

C’EST AVEC HERE?

Keanu Reeves will appear at the casting, but has never been seen by fans of the John Wick saga and will appear in the series… well, this is understandable in the current versions! Note that the main characters of the program are Winston Scott, embodied in the films of Ian McShane.

In this prequel, the character through whom we discover the rosy world of murder in Colin Woodell’s camp appears, among others, in the TV series The Originals, as well as in the French comedy by Lisa Azuelos I Love America.

Another iconic film character appears in the series. Charon, a concierge at New York’s Continental, features Ayomide Adegun, who plays the lead role in the office. This comes as a regretful Lance Reddick.

As series protagonist Cormac Fitzpatrick, we follow Mel Gibson, as well as his brother Winston Scott, who never appeared in the John Wick films and is played by Ben Robson (Vikings).

WHY ARE YOU AGAINST KURAD?

Here in 2014, the adventures of Keanu Reeves’ new heroes will not only revolutionize action films, but will also mark the beginning of a four-film saga, a spin-off (Ballerina with Ana de Armas, Prochainment at the Movies) and a series of prequels. ?

After more than a decade leading up to the intrigue of the four-part franchise, The Continental explores the early life of Winston Scott, a supporting character who has never been even more important than the John Wick films.

Winston Scott played Ian McShane (left-handed) and Colin Woodell (right-handed).

The starting point in the simple appearance of the first long film (a man takes revenge on the killers responsible for the death of his child) is offset by the composition of a codified universe.

John Wick… without John Wick

However, after four films, the question of The Continental series needs to be answered: can John Wick be made without John Wick? In the absence of Keanu Reeves, will this production be “Purra-t-elle seduire” in three 90-minute episodes without the presence of the famous translator of the four films?

From an aesthetic point of view, the series answers this question. The stylistic universe of the films is beautifully recreated thanks to the characters’ elegant costumes and majestic decor.

The first episode is dense enough that it can forgive exterior scenes that feel like backdrops or a studio tour. To better understand the audience, the prequel began in the 1970s, the series uses and abuses symbolic songs from that era.

From this first episode, we measure all the efforts to develop intrigue and characters, for some film appearances, for others, completely new ones. But the ensemble does not create a preliminary impression, which can be suggested not by the script, but by the basic principle that determines the sequence of actions.

It was a completely new pistol!

The recipe of the films is reproduced identically: Cannon is a martial art, a combination of fighting techniques represented by small arms, bloody weapons and indomitable enemies dressed in the path of heroes. It is difficult to follow the deaths on the screen in front of the terrible television that was offered to us in the first episode.

Apparently, the composition of the action scenes corresponds to the exact description of the charges, even if the ensemble of nous women gives the impression of déjà vu (et revu). Connoisseurs can easily appreciate the slow camera movements as well as the fight choreography.

There is also extensive use of bruitages (du “splouch” and du “bang” under the guise of a sonorous accompaniment) and généreuses gerbes de sang numeriques, etc., to obtain an ensemble of battle scenes without true accompaniment.

With its main drawback being its lack of originality and ability to replicate the recipe of the John Wick films, The Continental can stand as a good action film.

There is no special choice to be said about the casting of the series; here the composer has very subtle dialogues. The script no longer shines with its originality, but at this point it is intriguing enough to deserve it without wasting time on placement after a short demonstration.

To summarize: this is a very beautiful spectacle, and most of the time it is quite spectacular, but you need to be able to watch several reprises – and also complement the sequence of certain battle scenes.

Following the advice of fans of the most definitive John Wick series, the series promises to answer questions that have been forcefully asked. And now the surest thing is to collect fusils and firecrackers to enjoy the evenings in the very heart of three weeks…

The Continental is available exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, September 22, with one episode per week.
