There was a time when an actor felt flattered and more appreciated when called for a film intended for the cinema rather than a television product. But today, with the power of streaming and the increasingly high quality of TV series, the rules have changed. Serial dramas dominate TV at the moment, ed Emily Blunt is the protagonist of a new Amazon series that is titled The English. A six-episode western drama that finds the actress of A Quiet Place alongside Chaske Spencer in a classic western travel tale between chases, violence and mystery in 1890s America.
The English: the official plot of the series
The English tackles the central themes of identity and revenge to tell an extraordinarily compelling parable about race, power and love. An English aristocrat, Lady Cornelia Locke, and a former Pawnee cavalry scout, Eli Whipp, team up in 1890s Central America to traverse a violent landscape built on dreams and blood. Both have a clear sense of their own destiny, but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past. They must face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will test them to the limit, physically and psychologically. As each obstacle is overcome, they get closer to their final destination: the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming. Here, after an investigation by local sheriff Robert Marshall and young widow Martha Myers into a series of bizarre and grisly unsolved murders, the full extent of their tangled history will truly be understood and they will come face to face with the future.

British television and film veteran Hugo Blick writes and directs all six episodes of The English. Blick’s previous tv shows include Black Earth Rising And The Honorable Woman of 2018. He is also co-executive producer of the series which will arrive on Amazon Prime on 11 November 2023, following its UK premiere on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. In addition to the two protagonists, The English also finds in the cast Stephen Rea, Valerie Pachner, Rafe Spall, Tom Hughes, Toby Jones and Ciarán Hinds. The first trailer reveals the first images, suggesting the tone of the film and showing the various characters involved.
