“But here we are again”, this is what the Foo Fighters say to their loyal fans announcing the new album, which is entitled But Here We Are (which in Italian can be translated as “but here we are still here”, in fact).
Dave Grohl’s band announces the first album since the death of their drummer Taylor Hawkins (sudden death which occurred a year ago, in March 2022). In these hours the US group has released the single Rescueda little taste of the album that will be released on June 2nd.

The new album is “a brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything the Foo Fighters have endured in the last year”, as explained in an official statement issued by Grohl and company.
But Here We Are it is a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship and family. Courageous, damaged and resolute and authentic, But Here We Are opens with the newly released lead single Rescuedthe first of ten songs that cover the emotional range from anger and pain to serenity and acceptance, and a myriad of points in between.

At the bottom of this article you can listen to the new single Rescuedposted on the official Foo Fighters YouTube channel.

The drummer for the single has not yet been officially identified

Although the identity of the drummer who was chosen to replace the late Taylor Hawkins is now known to most (even if for now it is only speculation), the new single Rescued – published a few hours ago on the official Foo Fighters YouTube channel, listenable at the bottom of this article – does not indicate any names of new members of the band.
It seems that to take the place of Hawkins is Josh Freese. For him (or for anyone in his place, on the drum stool on which Taylor Hawkins sat until March of last year) it will be very difficult to bear the weight of this painful replacement on his shoulders, much suffered primarily by the members of the Foo Fighters but also by the fans.

Is Dave Grohl himself on drums?

The frontman of the band, Dave Grohl, has focused on singing and rhythm guitar since he formed the band in 1995, but as we well know he is a drummer himself: he was the drummer of one of the most famous bands of the nineties, for don’t say “the” most famous group of the nineties, Nirvana.
It could be that Grohl himself plays drums on this single (although it doesn’t sound like his sound), as the bandleader has occasionally contributed rhythm and percussion in the Foo Fighters’ past.

Yet the drummer of Rescued sounds more like Josh Freese

Josh Freese, who has been widely tipped to be the band’s next drummer, would appear to be just the one playing in Rescued. Although it could be anyone – or “anything” – in times when AI is playing tricks on us even in the music field (we are referring to the recent case of the song made with Artificial Intelligence that cloned the voices of Drake and The Weeknd , just pulled from almost all music streaming platforms and social networks).

For now, no official announcement has been made, and representatives of the group have not responded to requests for comment from the American magazine varietyso we just have to wait to find out directly from the band who will be sitting at Hawkins’ stool.

Foo Fighters will continue playing without Taylor Hawkins

Foo Fighters’ new long tour will kick off on May 24th

The band has scheduled the tour, which will begin with a first date in New Hampshire on May 24th. As he points out varietyit’s “likely the Foo Fighters will spend most of the rest of the year on the road.”

Grohl and company have been on hiatus for a long time following the shock of the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away on March 25, 2022 at the age of 50 before the band performed at a festival in Bogota, Colombia.

Hawkins had been the drummer for Foo Fighters since 1997 (he joined the band after touring with Alanis Morissette). He and Grohl were particularly close. The singer and guitarist described his colleague and friend in his titled memoir The Storyteller with the following touching words: “My brother from another mother, my best friend, a man I would take a bullet for.”
The Foo Fighters performed two tribute concerts for Hawkins last September, with a huge number of guests (including Paul McCartney, Joan Jett, Travis Barker, Chrissie Hynde, Josh Homme, Miley Cyrus, Pink, Dave Chappelle and members of Queen, AC/DC , Metallica and Rush).

Music: Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has died

But Here We Arethe new Foo Fighters album

Produced by Foo Fighters and longtime band collaborator Greg Kurstin, But Here We Are is “almost equally the Foo Fighters’ eleventh album and the first chapter in the band’s new life,” the press release states. “Sonically channeling the ingenuity of Foo Fighters’ 1995 debut, infused with decades of maturity and depth, But Here We Are it’s the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago. A process was as therapeutic as it concerned the continuation of life.
