The Idol, unveiled the new trailer of the already scandalous series with Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd

Countdown started for the release of one of the most anticipated and discussed series of the year: HBO has unveiled a new trailer for the Idolthe show with Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd already at the center of numerous controversies for the extreme pornographic representation that apparently forms the background to the story.

There is still more than a month and a half left, but the temperature is starting to warm up: in the new images, we find Johnny Depp’s daughter in the role of Jocelyn, a new aspiring pop star defined as “the last real fucking bad girl“. It is no coincidence that the whole trailer develops on the notes of Gimme more by Britney Spears.

The turning point for the protagonist of The Idol comes when it meets Tedros, powerful leader of a sex-obsessed cult. To interpret it is Abel Tesfaye, better known as the Canadian singer-songwriter and record producer The Weekend. Jocelyn’s rise to music star goes hand in hand with scandals and sexual excesses, which will certainly not be lacking as seen from the new teaser.

The Idol is created by the creator of another series that has already pushed the envelope, that is Euphoria starring Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney. In recent weeks, the Sam Levinson’s new show he has already attracted numerous criticisms and particularly scabrous reports. Second Rolling Stonemembers of the crew called the series «a rape fantasy any toxic male would love to see on a show».

The change of course due to the arrival of Levinson, in replacement of Amy Seimetz in April 2022. Since that time, the script has been revised and would now contain «disturbing scenes of sexual violence between their characters». The magazine spoke openly of «torture-porn» and pointed the finger at the celebration of violence contained in The Idolwhich even before coming out is already at the center of the controversy.

In the cast, in addition to the aforementioned Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd, we will also see Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, Suzanna Son and Hank Azaria. The Idol it is also awaited by a showcase of enormous prestige: it was included in the out-of-competition titles of the next edition of the Cannes Film Festival 2023.

The Italian release date is simultaneously with the US one: it will arrive exclusively on Sky And streaming only on NOW from the June 5, 2023.
