The new anthem for the annual League of Legends World Championship is a song from NewJeans

How long has it been League of Legends fan, I’ve been following the gaming eSports scene for years. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been keeping up with the ins and outs of competitive gaming, but there’s an annual event that I always make sure to notice: the annual World Cup anthem. Last year’s song was Lil Nas X’s “Star Walkin’,” which is hard to top, but NewJeans may have pulled it off with this year’s “Gods.”

Gods has a nice sense of escalation and the chorus strikes a great balance between catchy and inspiring. The pacing of the song also works well with the video, and it’s nice to see so many characters using the iconic tools of their favorite champions, be it Jace’s Quicksilver Hammer, Braum’s giant shield, or Syndra’s glowing orbs of destruction.

Worlds is the biggest tournament of the year, bringing teams from all regions of the world together in a multi-week tournament that spans multiple stages. This is the most prestigious award in the whole world. League of Legends. This year the tournament will be held in South Korea.

Each anthem is accompanied by an animated video that creates the atmosphere of the upcoming tournament. This year we saw a great video telling the stories of various esports stars and their journeys through the 2022 esports circuit. The story is told through action sequences in which players pick up the tools of their chosen champion.

This year’s video was created in collaboration with Psyop, the studio behind several other animated videos and Dead by daylight. Each scene is linked to previous tournaments and events, mostly centered around one of the most successful and famous players from Korea – Kim “Deft” Hyuk Kyu.

The 2023 World Cup begins on October 10 and runs until the final on November 19.
