Drake has been accused of using samples of songs from The Pet Shop Boys and Rye Rye on his new album without asking their permission.
The 36-year-old Canadian hit-maker sent fans around the world into a frenzy when he released his eighth studio album, For All The Dogs, on Friday.
Following the album’s release, The Pet Shop Boys tweeted that Drake had used the chorus from their 1984 song West End Girls.
They wrote: “Amazing to hear @Drake sing the chorus of ‘West End Girls’ on ‘All the Party’ on his new album. No loans or permits were requested.”
Rapper Rye Rye also took to social media to express her disappointment with Drake, allegedly sampling her song Shake It to the Ground, which she performed with rapper Blaqstarr.
This wasn’t the first time Drake sampled Shake It to the Ground, as the track is also featured on his 2022 song Currents.
Ry Ry wrote: “REALLY @Drake MY VOCALS AGAIN?” & NO CREDIT? I really want to be flattered but I feel like this is trolling ATP OMG… one of my favorite artists doing this. I don’t know what to feel anymore, but thank you for reminding me that my 15-year-old vocals are still legendary.”
MailOnline has contacted Drake’s rep for comment.
In response to the new album, Drake fans were quick to point out Nicki Minaj’s absence from any of the tracks – despite widespread claims that she would appear with her regular collaborator.
In July, Drake told fans at a Detroit concert: “I’m going to give you one thing tonight because I love Detroit so much. I have to tell you that Nicki Minaj and I recorded our first song together in a very long time. I love her very much”.
Although Nicki is nowhere to be seen, the 23-track record features appearances from Bad Bunny, 21 Savage, Teezo Touchdown, J. Cole, Yeat, SZA, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Chief Keef, Sexxy Red, Lil Yachty, and a special contribution from son Drake. , Adonis.
His confirmation and subsequent absence prompted fans to write, “Drake and Nicki Minaj’s previously announced collaboration is not included on his new album ‘For All The Dogs’…
“Tomorrow, Barbz will be after Drake for cutting Nicki from For All Dogs…Drake’s lady ass used Barbz for promo again!!!…
“Yeah he makes cool music but the way he hates Nicki Minaj needs to be examined!! What a hell of a head #drake #drizzy #nickiminaj #NickiMail… Where is the Nicki Minaj song on Drake’s album????…
“Drake is officially a fucking weirdo for lying about Nicki Minaj being on his album just to get her fans to stream his album. We stayed up ALL NIGHT, waited, but she wasn’t there. What a fool… No way did Drake put Sexured on his album instead of Nicki Minaj…
“Even Nicki herself confirmed she was on Drake’s album, she literally teased it for days and even posted the album cover on her story, y’all are just looking for ways to cope rather than deal with the REAL problem, aka Nicki Minaj, queen of the gag.” City…
“I think he lied…Where is Nicki Minaj’s Drake movie character?? #foralldogs.”
While some claimed he was “lying,” others predicted that the collaboration would actually be included on Nicki’s next album.
In addition to Nicki’s female fans, fans and critics have flooded social media offering early reviews of the album and tracks.
Some fans praised the record, with enthusiastic users writing: “For All the Dogs is Drake’s best album of this decade… Drake has had too many grown men look like this when he came in for All the Dogs.” Bro…
“It was worth staying for this, because all dogs are fire.” Although I almost crashed.”
Critics, however, were unsure of the tracks, with social media users writing: “To all dogs this is trash, like the drake goat wrote 23 bad songs, it’s a hell of a lot worse than CLB…
Maybe I’m too sleepy because it’s late and I need to give this album another chance, but Drake’s new album For all the Dogs has been disappointing so far.”
