The striped suit returns in Beetlejuice 2

Celebrity costume designer Colleen Atwood has confirmed that Michael Keaton’s striped suit from the first Beetlejuice is set to return in the upcoming sequel.

The character boasts many looks throughout the film, but the most famous is the white and black striped suit he wears, leading up to the finale during which he changes into a burgundy tuxedo.

Keaton, Tim Burton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are reuniting for the sequel, reprising their respective roles, which essentially wrapped filming the day before the actor’s strike.

Atwood, speaking to ComicBook.com, says that bringing back the suit in the sequel was a priority. However, Keaton seemed to disagree with her opinion about which image was more iconic:

“Well, Beetlejuice should have a striped suit. It’s like Alice in Wonderland needs a blue dress. Another thing is how long they wear it. But Beetlejuice is quintessential Beetlejuice. Oddly enough, it was Michael: he thinks the burgundy tuxedo is the quintessential Beetlejuice, not the striped suit. But the world doesn’t agree with him, so it’s funny.”

Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci also star in the new film, which is expected to hit theaters next September.
