JaRae Womack wowed coaches with her blind audition on Monday. Voice – but performing is already in her blood!
The 35-year-old Florida native took the stage with a boisterous and soulful rendition of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black,” earning her a four-chair turn from Reba McEntire, John Legend, Gwen Stefani And Niall Horan.
However, before the audition, JaRae told Voice cameras about the generational love of music that runs in her family.
“My grandfather is amazing, his name is Cecil Womack,” she shared. “He was in a band called The Valentinos, Sam Cooke started his career. He made his own solo career… and my uncle Bobby Womack ventured out and made his own solo career, and now it’s Jara Womack’s time!”
JaRae proved with her performance that she is certainly ready to make a name for herself, earning a wave of love from her coaches.
“It was crazy!” Niall surprised, praising JaRae for making the song her own with an “outstanding performance.”
Reba thrilled JaRae when she said the song “touched her soul” and Gwen praised her for showing her heart in a “powerful” performance. “That’s the whole reason we make music, right?” she noted.
John also nearly brought the singer to tears with his effusive praise.
“There’s something genreless about soul,” he explained. “I couldn’t tell for sure if you were a soul singer, but I could tell that you were a soulful singer, which means that something about it is genuine, true and passionate. You owned the song, you lived in it, and you were able to speak honestly through the music.”
In the end, John’s heartfelt speech led to JaRay’s decision to join Team Legend!
When ET spoke with the coaches Before the Season 24 premiere, Reba said Gwen, Niall and John welcomed her to the show “as warmly as a sister.” However, she noted that the friendly atmosphere fades when it comes time to get down to business.
“They helped me, guided me and taught me, and then when I got to that point, they say, ‘You’re on your own,’” she recalls.
“We still want to beat her,” John agreed with a laugh.
