Caleb Sasser’s Blind Audition Voice featured one of the fastest four-chair turns in the history of the show!
The 27-year-old North Carolina native took the stage Tuesday with a very soulful, stripped-down version of Toni Braxton’s “Another Sad Love Song” that had coaches turning heads almost instantly.
Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan And Reba McEntire everyone presses their buttons during the first few notes – just John Legend hesitated a bit, and even turned around before Caleb reached his first chorus.
Even though Caleb admitted that his biggest influences were “Jazmine Sullivan… and John Legend,” other coaches made their own suggestions, if only to praise Caleb’s calming presence on stage and his undeniable talent.
“The ease with which you sing is so beautiful,” Niall admired. “I definitely, 100 percent, don’t have a singer like you on my teaching staff. It would be an honor to coach someone like you.”
“Your voice made me feel so calm inside,” Reba agreed, saying she would love to sing a duet with a singer like Caleb.
Trying her best to ignore John sitting to her right, Gwen told Caleb that she wanted to help him show off his personality on stage: “I feel like I have so much to offer… Think about doing something.” another Today!”
Caleb admitted that his decision was difficult, but it was not surprising that he ultimately decided to become the last of the four chairs to join John’s team.
“Caleb is the perfect addition to Team Legend… I love working with artists like these,” John enthused.
“It was really musical and really creative,” the All of Me singer said of Caleb’s audition, stressing that song choice would be crucial for a voice as special as his to compete. “We can have a lot of fun doing this together.”
When ET spoke with the coaches Before the Season 24 premiere, new coach Reba said Gwen, Niall and John welcomed her to the show “warmly, like a sister.” However, she noted that the friendly atmosphere fades when it comes time to get down to business.
“They helped me, guided me and taught me, and then when I got to that point, they say, ‘You’re on your own,’” she recalls.
“We still want to beat her,” John agreed with a laugh.
Voice airs Mondays at 8:00 pm PT and Tuesdays at 9:00 pm PT on NBC.
