Tragedy in Australia: Invite them home for dinner, three people died
Investigations revealed it was a family reunion that turned into a tragedy that shocked Australia. Of the four guests at the family dinner, three died and one remains in intensive care. The hostess was under investigation for mushroom poisoning in the family, but her two children were also present.
The incident happened at the end of July and was revealed this week when the woman under investigation, Eileen Patterson, decided to invite her ex-husbands Gail and Don Patterson to her home for lunch. Erin is amicably separated from her son, but they have both accepted invitations to visit their two grandchildren. Gail’s sister Heather and her husband Ian also attended the meal.
Hours after the meal, four guests started feeling sick to their stomachs and were taken to hospital thinking it might be gastroenteritis, but when doctors checked it was found to be different and they were transferred to hospital in Melbourne. Despite their attempts to save their own lives, the healthy (66) and Gail (70) died hours later, but Ian was admitted to hospital in critical condition awaiting a liver transplant.
Authorities reported that the cause of death was poisoning from mushrooms they ingested with their meals. The woman claimed to be in shock at what happened and did not understand what was going to happen.
