Three Spanish Startup Semifinalists for the InnoStars Awards to Attend Startup OLÉ Salamanca

Nanodecal, D-sight and Manina Medtech, focused on biosanitary innovations, will present their solutions at one of Europe’s most important technology events in Salamanca, 4-7 September, finale of the EIT Flat Road Health Innovation Star Award.

The EIT Health InnoStars award is an important acceleration program for start-ups: in the last edition, the 20 best European start-ups received €25,000 in funding, individual acceleration and mentoring services, and entry to two bootcamps opportunity to develop their business plan and advertise their business into the market. The three winning teams received prize money worth EUR 25,000, EUR 15,000 and EUR 10,000 respectively.

EIT Health, part of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), the European Union agency, three Spanish start-ups from the 18 semi-finalists of the European InnoStars Awards program will participate in the Startup OLÉ in Salamanca, the Part of the Institute (EIT). Europe’s largest technology event for entrepreneurs, investors and organizations will be held in Salamanca from September 4th to 7th.

Specifically, start-ups Nanodecal, D-sight and Manina Medtech will present their innovations in medtech and biotech in a pitch competition and have a permanent booth at Startup OLÉ, where they will be able to access the network and communicate with businesses and Investor ecosystem to connect, book appointments at Salmantino events.
The participation is part of the training phase of the InnoStars Awards programme, which includes expert mentoring and €25,000 in funding for the 18 semi-finalist European start-ups. In addition to networking with other startups and investors, attending Startup OLÉ will be a crucial step in growing your business. After presenting their solutions and business plans, the jury will select 10 finalists and invite them to defend their projects at the InnoStars Awards Grand Finale.

Solutions for Patients and Professionals

Nanodecal is developing a rapid diagnostic test that can detect pneumonia-causing superbugs in 10 minutes. The test will help medical professionals prescribe specific antibiotics and prevent permanent infections.

In the case of D-sight, a sitagliptin ophthalmic solution was developed, which represents a new treatment approach in the early stages of diabetic retinopathy, the most common microvascular complication of diabetes and a preventable visual impairment and leading cause of blindness.

Finally, Manina Medtech is a start-up that helps doctors make decisions during in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments by detecting the optimal time for embryo transfer in a non-invasive and immediate manner.

InnoStars Awards: Driving innovation in Europe

EIT Health’s InnoStars award is an important accelerator program for early-stage startups in Europe, especially from Central, Eastern and Southern Europe, where the pace of innovation is more modest.

The program focuses on transforming prototypes into medical solutions or health products and helping them reach the market. Over the past seven years, more than 100 start-up companies have been established, more than half of which have successfully consolidated their positions in the biohygiene market.
