The de-influencing phenomenon strikes even the most virulent manicures of the moment. We’re talking about blueberry milk nails, a trend you’ve definitely seen if you’re on TikTok and interested in the world of beauty. A trend whose name, apart from that, has no meaning, but which brings to mind a precise color, born of the fusion of blueberries with milk (blueberry + milk). This is, trivially, a pastel blue “repackaged” by TikTok with a cute and catchy name, similar to Hailey Bieber’s Glazed Donut Nails or Naked Nails. The hashtag for this baby’s colored manicure has garnered over 10 million views on TikTok so far.

Blueberry milk nails, popularized by stars such as Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Richie Grainge in early June, have caught the eye of TikTok users who are fed up with these sudden trends whose sole purpose is to advertise generic nail polish. “I can’t believe we live in a world where we call blue a ‘cranberry latte,'” TikToker Maisie Thompson commented in a video that has been viewed a million times. While some users simply poke fun at the beauty trend and its iconic name, others dig deeper and point out that most people need to label these trends in order to define their identity. Of these, TikToker @caitlyn points out that “our relationship with them – beauty products – is becoming a proxy of sorts for our sense of individuality”.

@Caitlin on #BlueberryMilkNails and how identity is shaped by capitalism. To clarify a few points: I really disagree with Gia Tolentino’s assertion that people are “too preoccupied” with self-actualization – under capitalism, self-actualization is largely reserved for those who can afford it. Can, and instead we have to buy cheaper alternatives. And why are people *crazy* about blueberry milk nails? Probably because they recognize it as a silly marketing ploy and are freaking out over it with all the silly marketing tactics. #socialism #feminism #marxism #politics #theory #philosophy #corecore ♬ original sound – Caitlin 🌹

We live in an age in which the web is dominated by “-core” and an infinite range of viral aesthetics, but from what emerges from most users’ comments, the web is fed up with this constant flux and endianness of packaged trends. Already happened. , whose objective is to monetize rather than sell something truly innovative. Will Blueberry Milk Nails really be the last straw?
