Tom Brady attends Delta breast cancer event at Atlanta airport

ATLANTA — NFL legend Tom Brady, fresh off his new job at Delta Air Lines, surprised breast cancer survivors and fighters at the Atlanta airport on Monday.

Brady’s remarks drew loud applause after company CEO Ed Bastian shocked Delta employees, including those battling and overcoming breast cancer. The surprise came just before they flew to Salt Lake City on the airline’s special flight, called Breast Cancer One.

The former quarterback, considered by many to be the NFL’s greatest player, recently partnered with Delta Air Lines as a strategic advisor, where he will work with employees, customers and affected communities to implement Delta’s “Keep Climbing” plan.

During Monday’s Delta Pink event, Brady talked about his mother’s battle with breast cancer and how she’s now seven years into remission. The room filled with cheers at his mother’s achievement.

“(I’m here) to tell you that you have inspired so many people through your bravery, your courage, your resilience and fighting a very difficult disease,” Brady said. “This is a tribute to us. It’s a great celebration for everyone to be here because it affects so many of us in so many different ways – certainly you. Personally, my mother’s breast cancer has been in remission for seven years.”

Brady highlighted the importance of survival and empowerment for brave women fighting the disease.

“It teaches us a lot about family, community, support and unconditional love and gratitude,” Brady said. “And showing up every day like you do – keep fighting, keep encouraging others.”
