Tom Brady defends Jim Harbaugh, echoes Michigan football

Tom Brady showed his loyalty to Michigan football by supporting head coach Jim Harbaugh and the team following the suspension.

It finally happened. The biggest news in college football this season is the sign-stealing scandal involving the Michigan football team and Jim Harbaugh. After an NCAA investigation, officials announced the ruling. Harbaugh is banned from the sidelines for the remainder of the 2023 college football season. The result sent shockwaves around the league, especially as the playoffs approach.

Of course, the general reaction to the news was mixed. Michigan State fans and players remain loyal to Harbaugh, while most others condemn the football coach. One of the former Michigan stars in NFL legend Tom Brady Speak out in support Harbaugh posted a simple post on X (formerly Twitter).

Technically, there are no rules that prevent NCAA teams from recognizing and exploiting their opponents’ signs. However, there is a rule that specifically prohibits staff members from participating in other teams’ practices as scheduled. This is presumably to avoid widespread “sign-stealing” by the team. It is also illegal to use electronic devices to record signals. However, Michigan football circumvented the rules.

The charges allege that Michigan State sent a low-level football staff member to opponents’ games to record their signs. The staff member, Connor Stallions, allegedly disguised himself during the game to avoid detection and was acting on orders from the rugby team.

Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan football team believe that a) Stallions was a rogue staff member without direction from the team and b) other schools were involved in widespread sign theft. Regardless, the Wolverines will have to survive this season without their head coach.
