Tom Brady’s final game-worn jersey sells for $2.5 million at auction

The real Tom Brady Holy Grail is headed to the auction block this fall.

The jersey, which the five-time Super Bowl MVP donated for the final game of his 23-season career, will be featured in RM Sotheby’s Las Vegas auction on November 17. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneer wore this jersey when he and his team took on the Dallas Cowboys on January 16, 2023 in Florida. The star quarterback passed for 351 yards and two touchdowns in the NFC wild-card playoff game at Raymond James Stadium. Although the Buccaneers lost 31-16, the piece of clothing represented a pivotal moment in Brady’s storied NFL career.

The No. 44 top features his famous No. 12 jersey and captain’s badge, as well as grass stains and pitch markings from the game. The auction house estimates the jersey could sell for between $1.5 million and $2.5 million, meaning it could become the most expensive football jersey ever sold. (The record is currently held by a Joe Montana jersey, which sold for $1.2 million at Goldin earlier this year.)

Brady spent 20 years with the New England Patriots before joining the Buccaneers. Over the past two decades, he has established himself as a stalwart in the football world through his leadership skills and inherent competitiveness. He currently holds at least 17 NFL records. In early 2023, he announced his retirement via social media. “I’m going to get right to it…I’m retiring. Forever,” Brady shared on Instagram.

However, the athlete remains busy. He has been involved in at least five startups, including a Brady clothing line and an NFT platform called Autograph. He also became quite the watch collector.

In addition to Brady’s jersey, the Las Vegas auction will also include F1 driver Lewis Hamilton’s 2013 Mercedes-Benz F1 W04. The car is expected to sell for between $10 million and $15 million. Mark your calendars for November 17th, folks.
