Following the show’s second season finale, ‘Rocky’ star tom hiddleston appeared on “The Tonight Show” and told jimmy fallon This episode marks the end of his 14-year journey with Marvel.
Fallon invited Hiddleston as his first guest star so he could talk about one of his big projects after the SAG and ABC strikes ended.
Hiddleston was careful not to reveal too much, telling Fallon, “If you haven’t seen it, I won’t spoil it for you, but I will say this: It all comes full circle.”
“This is the finale of season two… it’s the finale of six movies, 12 episodes and 14 years of my life,” Hiddleston said.
Hiddleston noted that he was 29 when he was first cast as a villain and eventually became an antihero (if not a hero) – and now he’s 42.
“It’s been a journey,” Hiddleston said. “I do think there are echoes and resonances in the finale of every version of Loki I’ve played.”
He points to the title of the final episode, “A Glorious Purpose.”
“If you remember, in the first Avengers movie, Loki came to Earth and looked directly at Nick Fury, played by Sam Jackson, and I said, ‘I am Loki of Asgard. I had a glorious purpose,” Hiddleston recalled. “He’s arrogant, he’s arrogant, he’s entitled, he’s arrogant, he’s going to take over the world. And then, you know, it doesn’t go well for him – we’ve all seen Infinity War. “Meeting Thanos face to face , not so glorious. “
Looking back at the beginning of Loki season 1, Hiddleston praised Owen Wilson’s Morbius, calling him “the best ever.”
“He basically shows Loki that the ‘glorious goal’ is a fallacy and (Loki) gets a second chance,” Hiddleston said. “I think the most exciting thing about the show is seeing Loki try to rethink and rediscover that sense of purpose.”
Hiddleston points out the universality of this consideration.
“We can all relate to that. You know, I think we all wonder if we have control over our own stories,” Hiddleston said. “Can a leopard change its spots? Do we have free will? In exercising your free will, you make a choice in your life – do you drink black coffee, a latte or a cappuccino, that’s a choice. I mean, it’s a small selection.
“Every choice you make creates a picture of your life. Do these choices determine your purpose in life?” Hiddleston continued. “I think we all want to be happy in life, but we also want to have purpose in life. That’s what the show is about.
“Ultimately, it comes back to meaning, identity and family. That’s really what Loki has always been about – it’s always been about purpose and family,” Hiddleston said.
Fallon also reviewed “Rocky” fan theories. While Hiddleston noted that he didn’t know how much he could say, he did react. When asked if there was a secret connection between Loki season 2 and Marvel, Hiddleston said: “I mean, there is. Some secret, some not so secret.” However, he added that he wasn’t sure what fans thought the secret connection was.
Hiddleston also pointed out that his fiancée Zawe Ashton also stars in Marvel.
When asked if Minute Lady has been controlling everything, Hiddleston said it’s “a great question, with a lot of answers. I mean, we’re all looking at artificial intelligence, right? Artificial intelligence Intelligence is coming. As a slightly malicious cartoon clock… watch your back.”
Hiddleston was vague and avoided the question as to whether the second season of “Loki” will lead to other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects such as “Deadpool 3” or “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Fallon also asked Loki if he could use his time-slip powers to find Tony Stark/Iron Man.
“This guy. This is investigative journalism,” Hiddleston said. He answered cautiously, “Technically, the passage of time allows Loki to do some interesting things. But even on the football field, Hiddleston can’t escape his Marvel persona.
