In a small mountain village lives a man with a challenging name: Giuseppe Garibaldi, for all Peppino. He loves fishing, the company of friends, the library where he works on a temporary basis. He is certainly an optimist, and to his son who accuses him of being a failure he replies “I don’t know if everything you do comes back to you but I like to believe it”. One day, due to a mess of politicians, an enormous, incredible, unheard-of thing happens: Peppino is elected President of the Italian Republic by mistake. Torn away from his quiet life, he finds himself playing a role for which he knows he is evidently inadequate. His manners are undoubtedly inadequate but his common sense and his instinctive gestures are incredibly effective. Certainly protocol is not his forte. Janis Clementi, as inflexible as she is charming, deputy secretary general of the Presidency of the Republic, futilely struggles in an attempt to regulate the unpredictable initiatives of the President. It thus happens that Peppino’s joyful madness, humanity and disarming honesty surprise the institutions in crisis and conquer the disheartened country. But on the horizon you can already glimpse conspiracies, diplomatic incidents, political machinations because life in the palaces of power cannot be peaceful even if you’re just a librarian with a fishing hobby.
