To coincide with the release of the album, the artist shared the official video for the album’s title track yesterday. Directed by Connor Brashear (Kygo, Shawn Mendes), the video was filmed at the Downtown Palace, a theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

“The Show” was the first song Horan worked on for the new album. The piece defiantly reflects the human desire to control the uncontrollable and then gently urges the listener to fully embrace life in all its complexities. Written on a late summer night in 2020, after her tour supporting Heartbreak Weather was canceled due to the pandemic. With most of his guitar in his touring gear, Niall sat down at the piano to compose a song that would define a new era in his career.

To celebrate the album’s release, Horan performed “Today” in New York City as part of the City Summer Concert Series. After making her Boston Calling debut last month, she will be performing at festivals around the world this summer. Next February, he will embark on a world tour. Horan — who joined NBC’s “The Voice” this season and earned her first win as a coach with a win over contestant Gina Miles — recently performed on the show with another song from the album, “Meltdown.” . Rolling Stone wrote, “Unlike sultry pop songs that tend to bury doomsday lyrics in a glimmer of sunshine, ‘Meltdown’ maintains a relentless beat that mostly finds Horan singing about heightened anxiety and terror.”

In producing The Show, Horan worked with a close circle of collaborators including Julian Bunetta (Thomas Rhett, SG Lewis), Amy Allen (Halsey, Sam Smith), Jamie Scott (Jesse Ware, Rag’n’Bone Man) and Did. Acclaimed producers John Ryan and Joel Little. As alt-pop, the album draws much of its mesmerizing power from Horan’s use of harmonies, an element similar to Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne and other members of the 60s/70s music scene including Laurel Canyon, Inspired by Los Angeles. He has also been living in the neighborhood for the last seven years.
