After the stage (September 4) of the competition in Venice 80, Priscilla The new film directed by Sofia Coppola will soon hit Italian cinemas with Vision Distribution. The film is a biographical drama that recalls the period of the stay of Priscilla Presley, Elvis’ wife, in the pharaoh’s Graceland estate.

Official plot: When teenager Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailey Spaeny) meets Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi) at a party, the man who is already a rock ‘n’ roll superstar privately reveals to her as someone completely different: an all-consuming love, an ally in loneliness and a vulnerable Friend. Through the eyes of Priscilla, Sofia Coppola tells us the hidden side of the great American myth in the long courtship and tumultuous marriage to Elvis. General information about the film
- Sofia Coppola is directing the film from her own screenplay, based on her 1987 autobiography Elvis and Me: The True Love Story of Priscilla Presley and the King of Rock and Roll, written by Priscilla Presley with Sandra Harmon and published in 1987.
- Caylee Spaeny (Priscilla Presley) is an American actress and singer who starred in the sequel. Pacific Rim – Rebellionin a thriller 7 unknowns in El Royalein remake/reboot witch ritual and played young Lynn Cheney in the biopic. Vice – The Man in the Shadows.
- The romantic trilogy also starred Australian actor Jacob Elordi (Elvis Presley). Kissing booth Netflix and Thriller deep water with Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas.
- Filming took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada over 30 days.
- Sofia Coppola chose Caylee Spaeny for the role of Priscilla on the advice of Coppola’s friend and collaborator Kirsten Dunst, who worked with Spaeny on Civil WarA new film directed by Alex Garland (Annihilation, Humans) is currently in post-production.
- According to an interview with The Guardian published in March 2023, Sofia Coppola had to cut a week of scenes from the script after some of the film’s funding was cut before filming began. The film is produced by The Apartment Pictures (Lorenzo Mieli). and American Zootrope (Sofia Coppola) with Urey Henley, Charles Finch and Bumble Ward as co-producers. Priscilla Presley, Roman Coppola, Chris Hatcher and Fred Roos are executive producers.

Director’s Notes
I was struck by Priscilla Presley’s autobiography of her early years in Graceland. And I tried to capture what it’s like to dive into the world of Elvis, and then, in the end, go outside and reveal his personality. As an artist, it is important for me to show the world through the eyes of my characters, without judging. I have always been interested in concepts related to identity, experience and transformation of people. This film explores how Priscilla came to be who she is and what being a woman meant and meant to her and to generations to come. She experienced experiences common to many young women, with the only difference being that she encountered them in an unusual context. And that’s why in Priscilla’s story, despite her uniqueness, we can all incredibly identify with each other. (Sofia Coppola)
Priscilla – Soundtrack
- The authority holding the rights to Elvis’ music refused to give permission for any of his songs to be used in the film, so Sofia Coppola looked for creative alternatives when composing the soundtrack, including using contemporary music from her husband. Thomas Mars and his group Phoenixas well as covers of songs from the era in which the film takes place.
- Thomas Mars & Phoenix is their fourth collaboration with Sofia Coppola after Somewhere with Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning, Deception with Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell and On the Rocks with Bill Murray and Rashida Jones.
