jJennifer Lopez is the queen of Hollywood. There is no one like her. She is an award-winning singer, an incredible dancer and if the crime drama of 2019 Hustlers she’s one example, a very talented actress (we’re still mad she got snubbed at the Oscars).
Now, the Triple Threat is back for a new Netflix movie titled The Mother, which sounds really epic. The 53-year-old star of Anaconda returns to her action-packed roots for this film, in which she plays a lethal murder who comes out of his hiding place to protect the Daughter which he gave up years earlier from equally dangerous assailants. To be honest, she has already convinced us.
Directed by Niki Caro and with a release date scheduled for May, the streaming service is already in full promotional activity for The Mother, which is shaping up to be one of his most important films of the year. JLo is also a producer on the film, which has a much grittier role than her rom-com Shotgun Wedding which hit Prime Video earlier this year, and Marry Me with Luke Owen, released in theaters in early 2022.
Meanwhile, it’s important to note that the mother of two has already played a role similar to that of the mother. In the movie Enough in 2002, she played a terrified mother who went to great lengths to protect her daughter from her abusive husband. Naturally, in The Mother his character, while still protecting his daughter, is not necessarily the “good guy”. If you want to know more about Jennifer’s new film, read on.
What is the plot of The Mother?
The official synopsis from Netflix reads: «Years ago, a murderess was forced to go on the run, which forced her to give up her only daughter. Years later, the assassin returns to protect her daughter from some extremely dangerous men.’
Jennifer’s character will see her make up for much lost time as she tries to keep her teenage daughter safe from people who try to harm her. The film will also have an emotional side as it explores her journey to discover the identity of the father of her daughter.

Second deadlines, the film is inspired by the 1994 classic with Natalie Portman, The Professionalwhich follows the story of a former assassin who teaches his trade to a young girl.
Who is the protagonist of The Mother?
In addition to Jennifer Lopez, the film will star Lucy Paez in the role of her daughter. Even the star of The Handmaid’s Tale Joseph Fiennes will be present in the film along with Omari Hardwick, Gael Garcia Bernal, Paul Raci, Jesse Garcia and Yvonne Senat Jones.
Is the trailer out?
Netflix released a teaser trailer in September 2022 with the caption, “There’s nothing stronger than a mother’s love — and these killers are about to learn that the hard way. Jennifer Lopez is the Mother”.
The teaser sees JLo in character as she trains in the middle of a remote snowy wilderness, and scenes show her with her daughter as they battle evil. The trailer ends with Jennifer saying, “If there’s a problem, come find me.” We will for sure!
When it comes out The Mother?
The film will arrive on Netflix on May 12.
