Upside Down Houses by Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder

Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder have their sledgehammers ready, but they may be doing more than breaking down walls in their new Showtime and A24 comedy The Grudge. The studios have released the first trailer for their new genre-defying series, which premieres November 10 on Paramount+ and airs November 12 on Showtime.

Stone and Fielder play a married couple, Whitney and Asher, who flip houses in a new show called “Flipanthropy,” similar in appearance to real-life HGTV home renovation shows like “Fixer Upper.” Whitney and Usher’s series Flipanthropy is centered around a character named Dougie, played by co-creator Benny Safdie, who harbors some secrets.

Despite the big gap in the couple’s relationship and their hopes of having a baby, things aren’t going well for the house-changing couple. Whitney and Asher, living in Española, New Mexico, soon encounter a mysterious curse that will “break their relationship.”

In addition to The Grudge, Stone has recently gained attention for his role in Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Wretches, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim. Fielder is known for his unique and experimental shows “Nathan for You” and “Rehearsal”; These reality documentaries don’t fit into either genre, but both are characterized by his strong personality and sense of humor. Fielder also starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer as Edward Teller.

The first three episodes of The Grudge will premiere at the New York Film Festival, which runs from September. From 29 to 15 October. In addition to Stone, Fielder and Safdie, the series also stars Barkhad Abdi, Corbin Bernsen and Constance Shulman.

“The Grudge” is a joint project with A24. Fielder serves as director and co-writer along with Safdie. Brothers Benny and Josh Safdie are executive producers for their company Elara Pictures; Fielder and Stone also serve as executive producers along with Dave McCary and Ali Herting.
