Olivia Rodrigo’s new single, Vampire, debuts straight at number one on Spotify’s global charts, The track earned over 9 million streams in a single day, making it the biggest opening of the year for a female artist with a solo track in 2023.

In the song, Olivia Rodrigo tells the story of a toxic love that drains the life force.
,I was annoyed by a certain situation and went to the studio alone. I sat down at the piano and the chords, the melody and the lyrics all came out on their own, Olivia Rodrigo says, almost as if it was an out-of-body experience. “It’s a song about feeling confused and hurt and at first I thought it would be a piano ballad. But when Dan and I started working on it, we decided to add a drum beat to the song, changing the tempo of the song. Now that’s a song about love that’s gone you can dance to.”

“When I was writing Tart I was new to this job and my heart was broken. I would sit at the piano for hours and feel overwhelmed by the things I wanted to express,” Rodrigo explains. “But with this record I’ve focused more on the writing aspect, which involves not taking myself too seriously at times and being more daring with my words. We experimented a lot with different methods of composition and ended up creating something that is much more rock influenced than my previous work.
